Card of the Day: Daughter of Pentacles

Daughter of Pentacles from The Wild Unknown Tarot

This little Daughter/Page/Student is not afraid to risk security and stability to pursue what compels her. And what compels her? She knows what’s compelling to her because she listens to her body. She trusts that its feelings and sensations have information for her that her rational, cognitive mind does not. She is not afraid to take risks and make mistakes because she knows this is the process that’s necessary to attain true, honest wisdom.

The more I explore the aspects of life I hold most dear—my spiritual practice, my relationships, my creativity, and work that addresses and undoes systems of oppression—the more I am learning to trust the process and assume that there are layers and layers of things I don’t yet see or understand.

I was spending some time with friends last night, and we were observing and naming the deep human tendency to be completely blind to the ways we hurt others. My own experience with this has been so excruciating and humbling that I’m not shocked when I see it in others. It makes me feel so soft and tender to those suffering from harm and those who unconsciously do the harm. It’s so painful.

How many of us got taught algebra and photosynthesis and the Magna Carta? How many of us got taught how trauma works, how to emotionally regulate, how to repair harm? It’s like, once you start to really look, you see it everywhere and see how everything in our culture is designed to keep us from truly healing. Today, I’m praying for all of us and looking forward to tomorrow’s new moon in Pisces.
